STEEL BRIDGE

The Steel Bridge is one of the largest and most well known competitions for ASCE student conferences. Design specifications and competition rules are provided to participating universities from across the United States and even around the world. This competition challenges students to design and construct a bridge made entirely of steel parts that meet certain design specifications. On top of the specifications, there are rules explaining how a team will be able to construct the bridge to simulate practical loading conditions for steel bridges. The bridge is then loaded to a predetermined weight at selected locations in order to evaluates its deflection. All of this information is calculated into a final budget for the construction of the bridge  determining how teams are ranked. For more information about the steel ridge involvement, please contact the Steel Bridge Captain.

CONCRETE CANOE

The concrete canoe competition is one of the most well know competitions that we compete in at the ASCE Southeastern Regional Conference. Students completely design the canoe from the concrete mix to the dimensions meeting predetermined design specifications. At competition, students will participate in a professional presentation, swamping test, and races. The canoe is completely submerged in water to ensure that it will be capable of floating. On the second day of competitions, students participate in a series of races ranging from men's and women's endurance to a student/professor race. For more information about the concrete canoe competition, please contact the Concrete Canoe Captain.

DYNAMIC DAM

The dynamic dam is one of many small competitions performed at the ASCE Southeastern conference. For this competition, students were provided with certain design specifications to develop a dam that optimized outward flow in order to generate the most energy. A nozzle was designed and 3-D printed by students to optimize the flow over a propeller.

MATERIAL REINFORCEMENT

This small competition is where students use predetermined specifications to develop the strongest mix design for concrete cylinders. At competitions, students complete post test calculations to determine the compressive strength of the concrete cylinder.

CONCRETE CORNHOLE

Every year, a concrete cornhole competition is held at the ASCE Southeastern Conference. The mix design parameters and board specifications are provided to students. Students will design the concrete mixture and reinforcement. There is also a decoration portion to this competition with varying themes from year to year.
